Templates
A template is a branded overlay you design once in the Video Editor (a logo, a frame, a progress bar, a lower third, an intro or an end card) and then lay over any video. The Clipper lays it over every clip it makes, and Generate lays it over many videos at once. Templates come with a plan that includes them.
How a template works
- A template is a project of its own, edited in the Video Editor like any other.
- It plays over the video as one full-frame layer, on top of everything else. Its sound ducks while the video under it speaks, and fades out where the output cuts it.
- It has one layout per aspect ratio (9:16, 1:1, 16:9…). The Clipper and Generate pick the one matching the output.
- Its text can hold tokens that fill in per video, such as
{{title}}. - What the Clipper and Generate use is the published revision, never your draft.
Make a template
- In the Video Editor's Library, press New › New template.
- Give it a Name (My template) and an Aspect ratio, and press Create.
- Design it in the editor: add text, shapes, images, animations and sounds on as many tracks as you need.
- Press Publish when it's ready: Published — clipper and generate use it from now on.
To see how it sits over real footage, set a Preview video in Template settings: it plays under the template while you edit and is never part of the output.
Tokens
Write a token in any text clip as {{name}}; it's replaced per video.
| Token | Filled with | Where |
|---|---|---|
{{title}} | The clip's title | Clipper |
{{hook}} | The clip's hook text | Clipper |
{{source.title}} | The YouTube video's title | Clipper |
{{source.channel}} | The YouTube channel's name | Clipper |
{{name}} | The video's name | Generate |
{{generate.name}} | The generate run's name | Generate |
{{date}} | Today, as 2026-11-03 | Both |
An unknown token is left empty. In the editor, tokens show as written.
Track timing
A template is rarely as long as the video under it. Each track decides how it fits the output length: right-click its header and pick Fit to the output length.
| Timing | What the track does |
|---|---|
| Stretch | The clip that reaches the template's end holds there until the video ends. The default. |
| Loop | The track repeats until the video ends. |
| From the start | Plays once, from the start (an intro). |
| At the end | Plays once, lined up with the end (an end card). |
When the output is too short for both, At the end tracks drop first, then From the start ones.
Keep the ending (Off or Last 3s…) makes a stretched clip's last seconds keep their keyframe timing relative to its end, so an outro animation still plays at the end.
The Clipper's and Generate's Loop the template switch loops every track that follows the default.
Preview length
The Player's Preview length plays the template fitted to a longer output (Template length, or 30s output), read-only, so you can check how it stretches and loops.
Aspect ratios
The tabs above the Player list the template's ratios. Add an aspect ratio copies the open one, laid out again at its size; Remove this ratio removes it from the draft (published revisions keep it until the next publish).
Template settings
The settings icon beside Export opens Template settings:
| Section | What's there |
|---|---|
| General | Name (Rename), Preview video (Pick a video, Change the video, Remove). |
| Aspect ratios | Each ratio with Open and Edit; add or remove ratios. |
| Revisions | Publish the draft, each published Revision 3 with In use on the current one, Restore an earlier one into the draft. |
The header shows the draft's save state: Draft saved, Saving draft… or Draft not saved.
Use a template
- In the Clipper: pick it on the Template step. See .
- Generate many: lay it over many videos. See .
- New project from template: start an ordinary project from it, from the Library's template menu.
FAQ
I edited my template but clips don't show the change. Why?
The Clipper and Generate use the published revision. Press Publish to make your draft the one they use.
Can a run use different templates for different clips?
Yes. Pick several templates on the Clipper's Template step and each clip gets one at random.
Does a template change the clip's length?
No. The template fits itself to the video under it.
