Video Editor
Preferences
Preferences (the sliders icon in the header) set how editing works for you. The window lists its sections on the left (General, Timeline, Editing, Playback, Code editor) and each setting explains itself. Every setting starts from your editing style: one you change shows a dot and its own ↺ (back to the style's), and Reset all to CapCut (or Premiere Pro) puts them all back.
| Section | Setting | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| General | Editing style | CapCut or Premiere Pro: the keys and every default below that you haven't changed. |
| Timeline | Main track magnet | New projects close gaps on the main (bottom) video track. |
| Timeline | Linkage | In new projects, clips added above the main track ride on the clip under them. |
| Timeline | Audio waveforms | Draw each clip's sound. |
| Timeline | Follow the playhead | Page by page, Smoothly or Don't follow while playing. |
| Timeline | Mouse wheel | Scrolls up and down or Scrolls left and right (Shift does the other). |
| Editing | Click empty space to move the playhead | Or the click only clears the selection. |
| Editing | Dropping onto a clip | Goes to a free track or Replaces what's under it. |
| Editing | Paste goes | To a new track or To the targeted track. |
| Editing | Still image length, Transition length | How long a new photo or sticker, and a new transition, last. |
| Playback | Playback resolution | Full, 1/2 or 1/4: lower plays heavy edits more smoothly; exports always use full resolution. |
| Code editor | Font size, Tab size | The code's size, and how many spaces a tab is (also how Format indents). |
| Code editor | Word wrap, Line numbers, Minimap | Long lines wrap to the window; numbers on the left; a small map of the page on the right. |
| Code editor | Indent guides, Bracket colours, Sticky scroll | A line at each indent level; matching brackets coloured in pairs; the tag you're in pinned at the top. |
| Code editor | Format on paste | Pasted code is tidied to the page's indentation. |
The Code editor settings start from the defaults rather than your editing style; Reset code editor settings puts them back.
